POSITION: Catering Assistant
LOCATION: Glooscap Heritage Centre (GHC)
START DATE: February 28, 2010
REMUNERATION: Will be based on skills and experience.
WORK HOURS: When catering service is scheduled and part time on a call in basis. (The GHC offers catering services from early mornings to late evenings & weekends)
POSITION SCOPE: The Glooscap Heritage Centre's Catering Assistant will assist the Visitor Services & Retail Manager & staff in providing a professional, friendly and efficient service to the centre's customers. The Catering Assistant will provide advice and assistance, maintain product and undertake cleaning duties whilst ensuring compliance to company policies and Health Canada guidelines thus ensuring the smooth operation of the Glooscap Heritage Centre (GHC). The Catering Assistant will report to GHC's Visitor Services & Retail Manager.
TYPICAL DUTIES INCLUDE:
- To provide a friendly, informative and efficient service to customers, understanding their needs and requirements, working to exceed these wherever possible.
- To demonstrate a positive, enthusiastic, committed and flexible attitude towards customers and other team members, recognizing the importance and benefits of effective team working .
- Deliver customer service in line with GHC policies.
- To ensure that appropriate Health and Safety and hygiene procedures are followed.
- Undertake and achieve company funded industry recognized Food Hygiene qualification if not currently held.
- To prepare food for side dishes such as the cutting and arrangement of sweet breads, cheese, vegetable and fruit trays.
- To setup and put away tables & chairs for events & catering service.
- To carry out general duties such as washing up. As required.
- To carry out temperature control checks, as required.
- To assist with routine cleaning of the kitchen and all utensils and equipment.
- Confidentiality and discretion and an awareness of the GHS non-disclosure policy.
- This list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and the employee will be required to perform duties outside of this as operationally required and at the discretion of their Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be willing to provide an up to date criminal record check.
- Must be computer proficient and know how to use Excel, Word and Outlook.
- A drivers licence and personal vehicle is a definite must.
- Literary skills such as the ability to create business correspondence and develop business forms are a requirement.
- Excellent communication skills, problem solving skills, interpersonal skills, leadership skills and having experience working in a team atmosphere is required.
- Good interpersonal and customer facing skills, able to empathize, maintain professionalism, display patience and politeness within a sometimes pressurized environment is a requirement.
- Must have good attention to detail skills and the ability to recognize the benefits of effective service.
- A good level of physical fitness is required and ability to undertake manual work.
- Flexibility, enthusiasm and an outgoing personality is a must.
- Previous experience of working in a catering environment is a definite asset.
- Working knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation is an asset.
- Food Handlers course is a definite asset.
